As an artist and performer, Jamie Lidell has had a hell of a life, ping ponging from the avant-garde, to clubland hedonism to the mega mainstream and all points in between. He has adopted personae from faceless, nameless techno producer to flamboyant showman. He's made monstrous noise and sweet soul music. He's performed in art spaces, rave dungeons and some of the biggest stages in the world in a whirlwind of creativity. But since relocating to Nashville and starting a family, Jamie Lidell experienced isolation and introversion. Being brought face to face with his own neurodivergence he had to completely reassess his relationship to himself, his history, his music and creative process. And now, all of that is expressed in Places of Unknowing, his first album in almost a decade, a stark and beautiful departure from anything he's ever done before. Previously on Warp, two of Jamie's albums sold 30,000 copies each. He was winner of an A2IM award for best pop and rock album and has received press and radio play internationally.
