13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR:
Telegraph Avenue - Something Going
Exciting sounds from Peru! The group began after guitarist, vocalist and composer Bo Ichikawa's journey to the United States in 1969. Having attending many live shows of rock stars, including Santana, Bo returned to Peru to form Telegraph Avenue with friends.
Pierre Henry - Too Fortiche
In 1968 Pierre Henry and Michel Colombier composed "Messe pour le temps present" as a ballet for Maurice Brejart. Wish I could have been there to see the performance.
The Easy Beats - Sorry
Australian gold! Guitarist George Young would later inspire his younger brothers to form AC/DC.
Os Mutantes - Não Vá Se Perder Por Aí
Legendary Brazilian Psych that was an answer to SGT. Pepper. So happy that Levitation brought them to Austin in 2022 for us to enjoy.
Billy Nicolls - Feeling Easy
Pet Sounds inspired and my favorite track from one of my all time favorite records circa 1968. Only 100 copies were initially released.
Can - Mushroom
From their album Tago Mago circa 1971. The track is driven by the incredible talent of drummer Jaki Liebezeit.
Royal Guardsman - Leaving Me
Killer 60’s garage from Florida with some great fuzz.
Silver Apples - Program
A NYC duo with a unique sound and no limits. They used home-made oscillators and Andy Warhol was a big fan of theirs.
George Harrison - Dream Scene
The Beatle took a break to compose music for the film “Wonderwall” starring Jane Birkin circa 1968. Harrison was inspired by Indian sounds and hanging out with Eric Clapton a lot at the time.
Bruce Haack - Incantation
From the album “The Electric Lucifer”circa 1970. Haack was an electronic composer from Canada with a psychology degree that experimented with peyote and the album was influenced by psychedelic rock.
The Hykkers - I Want a Break Thru
Tough and wild Nigerian Psych Funk sounds circa 1972.
Blues Creation - Atomic Bombs Away
Hard psych from Tokyo circa 1971. This is the opening track from their album “Demon and Eleven Children.”
The Rolling Stones - Stoned
The Rolling Stones groove with an American inspired blues riff circa 1963. They were pushing the boundaries with the title and lyrics and the single was quickly withdrawn on “moral grounds.”
Until next time, thanks for listening!
