Jake Garcia of The Black Angels explores the sounds and history of the golden era of 1960s psych and rock & roll in 13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR. Tune in below! This playlist is updated with 13 new tracks on the 13th of each month.

13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR:

Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra - Zero Zoom Novembra
1960’s psychedelia in the name of November by German composer Peter Thomas. Art flourishes in times of despair and I believe that we will zoom again!

The Godz - Radar Eyes
The driving opening track from The Godz (NYC) second album circa 1967.

Selda - Yaz Gazeteci Yaz
Selda Bagcan is a musical hero for her Turkish songs of protest. This was recorded in cooperation with the most progressive Turkish musicians/arrangers of the '70s: Mogollar, Dadaslar, Zafer Dilek, and Arif Sag.

The Tangerine Zoo - Nature's Children
Psychedelic sounds from Swansea, Massachusetts on the Mainstream label in 1966.

Joe Meek & the Blue Men - The Bulblight
From the album “I Hear a New World” by Joe Meek and the Blue Men, partially released as an EP in 1960 before financial issues at the Triumph label prevented further release of the material. The Wire magazine listed the album as one of "100 Records that Set the World on Fire (When No One Was Listening)."

Deep Purple - Bird Has Flown
A scorcher from their self titled album circa 1969.

The Orient Express - Fruit of the Desert
East meet West in 1969 on this psychedelic journey.

Vampire Sound Inc. - The Lions and the Cucumber
Incredible track by an obscure German 1960's psychedelic exploitation band, the project of German composers Manfred Hübler and Siegfried Schwab. This is from the Spanish soundtrack "Vampyros Lesbos" directed by Spanish filmmaker Jess Franco.

The Paisleys - Now
Psychedelic sounds from Minneapolis, Minnesota circa 1970.

Ellie Pop - Can't Be Love
A proper nod to The Beatles Sgt. Pepper from Roseville, MI circa 1968.

Cold Sun - Twisted Flower
An obscure but legendary psychedelic outfit based in Austin, Texas that were inspired by The 13th Floor Elevators and active for only a few years around 1970.

CAN - Moonshake
A fantastic track from my favorite Can album “Future Days.” I discovered this in 1995 when I was at my favorite local record shop 33 Degrees, now reincarnated into End Of An Ear.

Susan Christie - Paint a Lady
A wonderful track from Susan Christie’s unfinished psychedelic folk album. Columbia Records originally shelved the album in the late 60’s but thanks to Finders Keepers Records we can now enjoy these lost tracks. She was from Philadelphia, PA.

Until next time, thanks for listening!
