Jake Garcia of The Black Angels explores the sounds and history of the golden era of 1960s psych and rock & roll in 13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR. Tune in below! This playlist is updated with 13 new tracks on the 13th of each month:
Curiosity Shoppe- Baby I Need You
Some great British action with the feeling of Carnaby Street Circa 1968.
Krzysztof Komeda / Rosemary’s Baby OST - Rosemary’s Party
A dreamy Psychedelic track from probably my favorite movie of all time.
Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera - Mother Writes
From their self-titled concept album Circa 1967. British Psyche inspired by Pink Floyd. Touring on the bill with Pink Floyd during the Syd Barret era helped them shape their sound.
Four Just Men - Things Will Never Be The Same
An early floor stomper from the band that would later became “Wimple Winch.”
Love - Softly To Me
Another incredible song from my favorite group of all time.
Powder - Turn Another Page
Incredible 60’s powerpop from Sonny and Cher’s backing band.
Jimmy Gordon - Buzzzz
Fuzzed out instrumental gem with hip keys to make us dance.
Quarteto Nova Era - Viagem no Tempo
I’ve gotta a special place in my heart for Brazilian Psyche for many reasons including the way that they capture sound. This is a fantastic example of that.
Tony and Terri - I Want You
60’s garage gem from some unknown analog studio. The drums are unbelievable. Dig the rich sound here !
Bain Didonc - 4 Cheveux Dan’s Le Vent
This is French freakbeat in it’s finest form.
A Bolha - Sem Nada
The Bubble, Circa 1971. Another rad Brazilian group.
Ersen - Oy Golem
Turkish Psyche sounds from Ersen. 100 percent Wild!
Magma - Kobaia
The opening track from their debut record Circa 1970. Check the top notch musicianship of Magma led by legendary drummer/vocalist Christian Vander. I’ve been a huge fan of this group for years and my prized possession is a vintage brass beltbuckle with the Magma logo I got from them many moons ago.
Thanks for listening , until next time. Peace and love y’all
