Jake Garcia of The Black Angels explores the sounds and history of the golden era of 1960s psych and rock & roll in 13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR!

Joe Meek - I Hear a New World
This was the album they used to play to test fidelity on state of the art home audio equipment circa 1960 and a peek into what Joe Meek thought Mars might sound like? Wild music from a troubled person. Long story but he ended up killing his landlady and himself in 1967.

The Who - Disguises
From the album “A Quick One” circa 1966. The band was in their prime having played tons of concerts and they had a nasty reputation for all out destruction which ended up costing them a lot of money and gained them legendary rock and roll fame.

Gary Walker and The Rain - Magazine Woman
The Walker Brothers drummer ventures out with his own band in 1967 to create this British psychedelic mod gem. Guitarist Joey Molland grew out his hair and later joined the band Bad Finger.

Pearls Before Swine - Playmate
A unique folk psyche group from Melbourne, Florida circa 1967. This is the most upbeat song on the album and the Farfisa organ almost sounds punk. They claim to have never made a dime off of this record and singer Tom Rapp eventually became a civil rights lawyer in 1984.

Serge Gainsbourg - Requiem Pour Un Con Translation
One of my favorite drum beats/sounds is in this song. Serge was a true genius.

The Peace - Black Power
A song of love , peace and freedom from Zambia circa 1973. Uplifting!

Zoot - You’d Better Get Going Now
Incredible pop psyche with buzzsaw guitar fuzz. Australian singer/guitarist Rick Springfield became a heart throb in the 80s with his hit song “Jesse’s Girl” and his TV character on the popular soap opera “General Hospital.”

Nahid Akhtar - Dilbar Dilbara
Raw psychedelic sounds from Pakistan. 100% wild!

Cosmic Jokers - Der Herrscher
The ultimate Krautrock super group featuring the space guitar sounds of Manuel Gottsching and the wizardry of Klause Schulze. The musicians used to trade drugs for their studio time and though they were never a proper ensemble; their music was created from sessions put together by label head Rolf Ulrich Kaiser and Gille Lettman in early 1973, without the performers' knowledge.

Jacques Dutronc - Hippie Hippie Hourrah
A wonderful Turkish psyche sound in the French perspective. Hip hip hooray for us to get back to our lives again and rid this pandemic as soon as possible!

Jason Crest - Teagarden Lane
A slow psyche masterpiece in the UK style of 1967. This is my favorite period of psyche music from the UK along with other great groups such as Tintern Abbey, Fire, Winsons Fumbs, The Attack and many others.

Faust - Jennifer
This track has one of the most unique and incredible bass lines I’ve ever heard. I’m a huge fan of everything Faust has done. One of the reasons their sound is so original is that they spent 2 years in isolation at the top of a mountain without any connection to the outside world. No television , radio, or newspaper; just them and their music.

Can - Yoo Doo Right
This one goes last because it’s 20 minutes long but it’s my favorite Can track with original singer Malcom Mooney. Mooney was the one who named the band “Can” who were previously called  “Inner Space.” He left the band because he wanted to return to the States.

Thanks for listening!
Until next time, take care and much love.
