John Cale
Velvet Underground co-founder, classically trained Welsh viola player and one of rock's most restless avant-garde figures. Cale's solo career (Paris 1919, Music for a New Society, M:FANS, MERCY) plus producer credits for Patti Smith, Modern Lovers and Stooges make him one of the foundational figures in everything we now call indie.
