Blonde Redhead have spent three decades bending noise rock into something gorgeous and strange, the New York trio of Kazu Makino and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace trading no-wave grit for the lush, dream-pop haze of records like Misery Is a Butterfly and 23. Sit Down for Dinner, their tenth album and first in nine years, gathers all of that around the quiet ritual of a shared meal and the ordinary weight of growing up.
We have hosted them at Levitation twice, in 2023 and again in 2025, and watching that interplay live is the whole reason we wanted this one on wax. Pressing a Levitation Edition of Sit Down for Dinner felt less like a release and more like keeping a conversation going.
What gets us about Sit Down for Dinner is how unhurried it is. Makino and the Pace brothers circle each other's voices and rhythms like people who have been in a room together for thirty years, and the songwriting leans into melody instead of hiding behind texture. It is the rare comeback that sounds settled rather than anxious, warm without ever going soft.
The critics largely landed where we did. Pitchfork called it the warmest, most welcoming record in their catalog (7.5), while Exclaim! found the band as compelling as ever after the long layoff. Both nods track with what we hear: a group that aged into its own restraint.
If we have one quibble, that same easygoing pace can blur a few of the middle tracks on a passing listen. But it rewards the patient spin, and that slow-bloom quality is exactly what earns it a place on the turntable.
