Jake Garcia of The Black Angels explores the sounds and history of the golden era of 1960s psych and rock & roll in

13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR:

July - My Clown

The opening track from one of my all time favorite psychedelic records circa 1968.

Marcos Valle - Brasil X Mexico

Magical and wonderful instrumentation/arrangement from Marcos Valle circa 1974. This album stands out as my favorite of his works.

Syd Barrett - No Good Trying

From Syd’s debut solo album. He was a true  genius and I’m so glad that this got recorded. We can feel his personality traveling thru the speakers.

Brainticket - Egyptian Kings

Future primitive sounds from their amazing album “Celestial Ocean” circa 1973.

Cluster - Caramba

This track cooks! From the amazing KrautRock staple “Zuckerzeit” (Sugar Time.) They were chartering new musical territory with so much imagination and originality.

Public Nuisance - Love is a Feeling

A great garage rocker from the lost recordings that were unearthed and released in 2002 by Shadoks Records. The Manson murders prevented this album from ever being released, it’s a wild story.

Os Mutantes - Magica

Incredible Brazilian Psyche taken in direction but further than The Beatles Sgt. Pepper vibe. Allegedly they have tape spliced The Rolling Stones “(I can’t get no) Satisfaction” in this song somewhere although I can’t tell?

The Afex - She's Got the Time

A high energy and catchy floor killer from this UK group Circa 1967.

The Kinks - The Way Love Used to Be

A deep song that’s fitting by today’s standards. They were the best songwriters and there’s no other like The Kinks!

Kamuran Akkor - Yorgun Gozler

Istanbul rhythms with wah wah guitars and luscious strings circa 1971.

Pearls Before Swine - Translucent Carriages

Psychedelic folk from NYC Circa 1968. This album was intended to be an anti-war statement.

Walter Wegmuller - Der Herrscher

Walter Wegmuller was a Gypsy/Swiss Painter and a friend of Timothy Leary who was introduced to the Kraut supergroup “The Cosmic Jokers.” They collaborated in the studio to record this legendary collection of works titled “Tarot” in 1972. Each song on the album represents a tarot card.

Can - Future Days

The title track from my favorite Can album. I first discovered this at a record shop here in Austin called “33 Degrees” when I asked the clerk for a recommendation on something that they liked.

Thank-you to everyone for sharing the amazing gift of music. Until next time, be well.
