13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR:
The Zombies - Care of Cell 44
The opening track to one of the finest records of all time; Odyssey & Oracle circa 1968. Seeing them live tonight in Austin!
Q65 - The Life I Live
Dutch masters doing their thing circa 1966.
Arnold Corns - Hang Onto Yourself
The predecessor to Ziggy Stardust, Arnold Corns was a band, formed by David Bowie in 1971, the name of which was inspired by the Pink Floyd song "Arnold Layne.”
David John and The Mood - Diggin’ For Gold
Joe Meek does the Freakbeat sound circa 1965.
The Night Crawlers - Who Knows
A moody track that builds and builds from the USA garage group that brought us the the track “Little Black Egg.”
Ash Ra Tempel - Space/ Power Drive
Timothy Leary gets involved in a German studio session with Ashra Tempel and the Cosmic Jokers and this is the result.
Sharon Tandy - Hold On
Super MOD groove from Sharon Tandy.. that might be Jimi Page on guitar?
Ofo and The Black Company - Allah Wakkbar
Incredible raw sounds and rhythm from Africa. This one smokes!
Silk Schwinger , Fatty George - Road Trip Through Vienna
Fantastic road trip music with some excellent grooves and fuzz from the long lost and extremely rare Austrian hippie-rock/jazz/funk opera score circa 1971.
Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera - Flames
A British stomper that makes you wanna hit the dance floor. Amazing record all the way through.
Captain Crunch and The Crew - Nowadays People
A fine example of 1960’s garage , my favorite. This one is on a Keb Darge mix, probably my favorite dj and I got lucky to spend some time with him recently in London sipping whiskey and talking records (talking shite as he says:).
The Crystal Garden - Peach Fuzz Forest
Great fuzz track with some interesting harmonies going on. Really dig this !
Angelo & Eighteen - Flight 2
This is a unique and timeless record that was released in 1972 and produced by Micky Most. Swedish? I love it!
Thanks for listening. See you next time!
