Jake Garcia of The Black Angels explores the sounds and history of the golden era of 1960s psych and rock & roll in 13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR. Tune in below! This playlist is updated with 13 new tracks on the 13th of each month.

13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR:

Dave Starky V - Hey Eveybody
Upbeat and wild from Houston, Texas circa 1965. 60’s garage, my favorite kind of sound!

Smog - Wicked Man
Fuzzed out Peruvian Psych circa 1972. The real deal!

Pearls Before Swine - Rocket Man
This song is said to have inspired Elton John’s “Rocket Man” after he heard it. They were a NYC outfit.

Os Mutantes - Algo Mais
Absolutely incredible that this exists! This record has changed my life and be sure to catch them here for Levitation @ Empire on Thursday October 27th along with WITCH!

Group 1850 - Little Fly
A sultry scorcher from this Dutch psychedelic group circa 1968, formed in The Hague. The original album came with 3D glasses!

Joe Byrd & The Field Hippies - You Can’t Ever Come Down
It’s almost goofy how psychedelic this track is but they were probably very serious about it. Written and recorded by experimental composer Joseph Byrd who was also the leader of one of my all-time favorite groups “United States of America.”

Musi O Tunya, Rikki Llilonga - Dark Sunrise
A great example of the Zamrock movement circa 1975.

Magic - One Minus Two
A unique psych-pop sound from this Florida group circa 1969.

WITCH - No Time
I encourage y’all to check out the documentary on this band and then come to see them perform here in Austin for Levitation with Os Mutantes on Thursday October 27th.  Big thanks to Jacco Gardner for helping getting this legendary group back together.

Los Dug Dugs - Brinca, Brinca
From Durango, Mexico. This is one of the bands I’m most excited about seeing for Levitation on Friday October 28th.See you there!

Poobah - Blooey Gooey
Stoned sounds from Youngstown, Ohio circa 1972. Check the phaser!

Jake Holmes - Dazed and Confused
After hearing Holmes perform the song in August 1967, Jimmy Page reworked it with a new arrangement. It soon became a centerpiece of Led Zeppelin’s  tours and It became a signature song and concert staple for much of the group's career. With new lyrics and vocal line, “Dazed and Confused" was recorded for Led Zeppelin’s debut album.

Question Mark & The Mysterians - “8” Teen
Very fine 60’s garage and soul from these masters that brought us “96 Tears.”

Thanks for listening, and see you here for Levitation!
