13 FROM THE 13TH FLOOR:
The Moving Sidewalks - 99th Floor
The 13th Floor Elevators’ label mates and pre-ZZ Top from Houston, Texas circa 1967. We are lucky to have singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons still active in the Austin music scene today.
My Solid Ground - The Executioner
Some obscure psychedelic rock from Germany circa 1971. This is their only known album?
Billy Nicholls - Come Again
Wonderful harmonies and 12-string magic recorded in London at Olympic studios circa 1968 by this genius 16 year old. The full album “Would You Believe” is one of my desert island discs.
Los Texao - Stone
Very psychedelic Peruvian garage circa 1966. Fuzzed out to the max!
Lalo Schifrin - Danube Incident
From the album “More Mission: Impossible” circa 1969. Portishead had an amazing hit with a sample from this track and they were geniuses to do so.
Kaleidoscope - Sky Children
A very catchy melody from their album “Tangerine Dream” circa 1967. I can only imagine what it was like to be in the London scene back then?
The Pretty Things - L.S.D.
The title says it all! They were said to be the first British group to have a wild and savage reputation. They were also rivals to The Rolling Stones although Brian Jones was their roommate in the beginning.
Grains of Sand - She Needs Me
Wild USA garage circa 1966. My favorite sound!
Jean Cohen Solal - Ab Hoc et Ab Hac
An incredible groove from French flutist Jean Cohen Solal circa 1974.
Jean Paul “El Troglodita” - Vudu
Crunchy and fuzzy goodness from this Peruvian outfit circa 1973.
Hailu Mergia - Anchin Kfu Ayinkash
Really good vibrations from Ethiopia circa 1976. A very beautiful song.
Between - Devotion
Lost in the dream state of devotion circa 1973, Germany. Purely original and an amazing gem from their album “And The Waters Opened.”
Chrissy Zebbo Tembo - I’m Not Made of Iron
Riding the wave of ZamRock circa 1976 with the Ngozi Family as the backing band. Love this so much with the loose rhythm and fuzz.
Thank-you , hope you enjoy.
